I have been using an LG GSA 4167B without problems
A LiteOn SOHW 1633S...works well and so does a LG GSA-4040B

Maybe its not the software...but the hardware
I assume the machine starts nicely without a DVD burner Installed??
I assume you have an adequate power supply??
I assume you have the Jumpers setup properly for master/slave
The GeekSquad is not the best at these things!!

I have a Sony CD-RW burner and another Sony DVD burner in the same machine.
Both work fine. The problems is getting Vista compatible burning software.

Is your power supply up to the task of supplying sufficient power for the
hardware you are using?

I'm using an NEC DVD RW ND-1300A that came with my machine when i purchased
it two years ago. This is working fine with Vista RTM. I can't say the same
for burning software, though. The latest version of Nero (vista compatable)
is useless:-(

I got my CD/R-W and Sony DVD Burner working with Vista. I am using
BurnForFree to burn DVD et al.

You might do a search on the group for "DVD" and "registry". Some have used
a published reg "hack" to get the drives working. I was going to do it in
RC1 but the registry was corrupt. Going to RC2 solved the problem (reg
rebuild during install fixed it ??).

Hope this helps.
