Wrong Hardware update

Hi

Windows update is offering me a wrong HW update for the audio device. I even
downloaded and installed it and there was no audio anymore. I stepped back
to the old driver and audio was ok. I then checked to update offered by name
and found that it does not fit to the audio on my mobo.

I have: Avance AC97 Audio for VIA Audio Controller (on a ASUA A7V8X)
MU offers: C-Media AC97 Audio, which does not work.

I tried to find a link or so to drop MS a note on this mistake but could not
find anything similar.

Any hints?

Franz

Personally I would'nt use winupdate for any hw drivers, too often they have
found to be corrupt/incorrect versions.
I would only update from hw manu.web site.
There are some that say you should'nt update unless it cures a
problem/provides greater functionality
