What is wrong with Windows Update v5?

I am a Windows XP home edition user. I find I cannot update Windows
after the Windows Update v5 is announced. The automatic update process
always fails.

Also I cannot start BITS. The System Event Log gives the following
message:
The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service terminated with
service-specific error 2147942405 (0x80070005)

I've read some posts in this newsgroup. It seems quite a few people
are suffering the same problem. Is it a Microsoft bug? Anyone can help
me out? Thanks a lot.

In your post:
----
In Internet Access Control go onto Microsoft Generic Host Process for Win32
Services (if it isn't already there then add it by browsing for
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe , select Modify... Customize Internet
Access or this application (OK), Add, and add the following:-
----

What does it mean? I don't see any Internet Access Control option in Control
Panel. You are talking about menu in your NAV?

In addition, I have 3 computers in my LAN. All are firewalled by the same
router. All have the same AV software. However, the other two work very well.
So I don't think it's because the AV or fireware problem.

Actually I even cannot start BITS service!
