WS03: Do I need an License Logging Service?

Hi All,

I have a Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server. When I
click on Admin Tools, Licensing (llsmgr.exe), I get a pop up
that says that "\\server" in unaccessible. "\\server"
is the name of my Linux Samba Primary Domain Controller
(PDC). It has no "license service". There are no other
Windows Servers on this network, other that the WS2000 TS
that the WS2003 server is replacing.

I have all my TS CALs installed. Is there any reason why
I even need to use "Licensing" to install my regular
licenses? Every thing seems to be working fine without my
regular CALs.

If I need to install a "license service" on this TS, how do I
do it? The "License Logging" service is running. I can not
figure out how to get llsmgr.exe to use it.

Many thanks,
-T

Hi Meinolf,

I will disable it on the local machine. If I understand you correctly,
I am on the honor system, just like WS08.

Many thanks,

Hi Arsham,

I think you missed the part about the PDC not
having a license server:

...Linux Samba Primary Domain Controller
(PDC). It has no "license service".

Anyway from what I am reading, this services never
worked correctly anyway and was removed from WS08.
So, I am on the honor system.

Many thanks,
-T

Exactly, As Meinolf said, the service has *NEVER* worked. We've been on
the honor system since W2K....
