Hi all

Although MS Update works fine with optional updates (software & hardware),
it fails to download critical updates. I have tried several times and receive
the samer error message:- The following updates were not installed:

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 (KB951550)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB957829)
Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB955069)
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954459)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2008 (KB890830)
Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB957097)

Error Code: Error Code: 0x80072F78

I have searched for a solution here but cannot find one. Can anyone help,
please?

0x80072F78 ERROR_HTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE
The server response could not be parsed.

Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one? Is Automatic Updates
enabled?

Start here:

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows
Update or Microsoft Update to install updates

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:

Support for Windows Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/wusupport

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY in
the United States and in Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. There is no-charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates. When you call, clearly state that your problem is related
to a Security Update and cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB999999).

For more information about how to contact your local Microsoft subsidiary
for security update support issues, visit the International Support Web
site: http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available through
your usual support contacts.

Hi

Thanks for replying.

This is a sudden, new problem. Automatic updates is turned on and has worked
fine up to now. I can still select non-critical updates, ie software and
hardware updates and they download and install with no problems. It is only
in respect of critical updates that there is a problem, which seems very
strange................

Hi again

I just tried again. Of 7 critical (high priority) updates, 6 failed to
download, but the other (an update to Windows Defender defenitions)
downloaded and installed correctly.

OK, will do.

I managed to download and install the 6 high priority updates in question
manually with no problem.

Thanks for your help with this.
