WSUS - 2000 client not downloading updates from local server

Hello!

I have set up a WSUS test environment using virtual server 2005R2 to test
WSUS before deploying it to our organization. I have set up a 2003DC, a 2003
WSUS Server, an XP client, and a win2k client.

The Xp client is detecting and downloading updates as it should from the
WSUS intranet server. However the 2k client is not. I have installed SP3 on
the 2k client in order for the automatic updates feature to be enabled. If I
go into control panel/automatic updates on the 2k client all the options are
greyed out which indicates it is reading the group policies, however the wsus
server does not list it as being contacted at all.

I have the client computers in an OU called "client computers" and a single
GPO assigned to that OU giving out the WSUS settings. I have the clients set
to check for updates every hour from the WSUS intranet server.

Seeing that the XP client works unless there is a specific setting that has
to be set a particular way for 2k client to work I am not sure what I am
missing. Can anyone lend me a hand?

Thanks!
/Ehren

Is WSUS listening on port 8530 or 80? If 8530, then check to see if the
"default" website is running on port 80 and that the SelfUpdate folder is
there. (Windows 2000 has to acquire the new automatic updates client and
reboot if memory serves me right. As always don't forget to look at the
Windows Update log file found in the Windows directory to get a clue as to
what workstation is up to.)

Hello!

Thank you for your response.

I checked in the %systemroot$ (Winnt) directory and did not find the
windowsupdate.log file.

WSUS is listening on port 8530, the default website is enabled and running
on port 80 however there is one folder and two files in it (the default)
aspnet_client folder and iisstart.htm, and pagerror.gif, no selfupdate folder.

What should I do given that is the case?

Thanks much!

/Ehren
