Some one in my organization has disble the GP enabling WSUS. When this
happened, apparently the desktops have started to look back to Microsoft for
updates. I cannot find any documentation about this. Does anyone know if
the desktop reverts back to looking at microsoft if the GP is not there?

Perhaps try the WSUS Newsgroup

On the web:

In your newsreader:

No, normally they don't revert unless you add new group policy that explicitly
reverses the prior settings. There is one special case I can think of: if there
is local group policy on the machine that would take effect once the domain
group policy was disabled; check local group policy on an affected machine.

Have you used the RSOP tool to check that there isn't some other active group
policy changing the settings?

Harry.
