I have installed WSUS on a member server which is also a SMS server and
configured on port 8530. we have around 800 computers in the domain and only
200plus are showing up in the WSUS computer list. there are windows 2000, XP
with Sp1 and XP sp2 workstations and i can see all three type in WSUS list.
client coputers are pointing to wsus using GPO policy http:Servername:8530.
i have tried Client Diagnostic tools with a full pass, wuauclt.exe /detectnow
also has no errors. Once it showed the computer name in the WSUS list after i
ran wuauclt.exe /detectnow and after some time the computer name disappeared
from the list. any idea what is happening here ????????? here is the
windowsupdate.log

I recently had this exact problem. I was happening on PCs that had
been imaged. Found a thread that fixed my problem.

"Sounds like a classic case of 16 clients built from the same image,
and not
using -reseal on the sysprep, and the image already had SUS/WUS/WSUS
information contained within.

Delete the values in
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Win dowsUpdate and
restart the
Automatic Updates service on each of the clients. The clients will
obtain
new GUIDs for WSUS, and you'll see them in a short period of time.

Also, you'll want to rebuild that image with 'sysprep -reseal' so the
problem does not recur."

Hi,

You only need to delete the three following values under that
registry key:

AccountDomainSid
PingID
SusClientId

After deleting those values, run the three following commands in a
command prompt:

net.exe stop wuauserv
net.exe start wuauserv
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

(be sure to use the combining parameters in the order as above for the
wuauclt.exe command line)
