For those whose systems have been experiencing the svchost/100% CPU
issue, please see the WSUS Product Team Blog's latest entry:
http://blogs.technet.com/wsus/archiv...follow-up.aspx
Following the steps laid out there *should* cure this persistent issue.
Also, I'd suggest that some housecleaning be done in the
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution folder IF doing the recommended steps only
partially alleviates the issue:
Show hidden files, folders, and system files -

Stop the Automatic Updates service from within the Services console
Leave the console open for now
[Alternative method : Go to Start > Run > type in
net stop wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter]
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
DELETE DataStore.edb
***NOTE***: The updating history shown on the Windows/Microsoft Update
sites will NO LONGER be exist when deleting DataStore.edb
Close Windows Explorer
Empty the Recyle Bin
Back in the Services console, restart the Automatic Updates service
Close the console
[Alternative method : Go to Start > Run > type in
net start wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter]
The msi.dll, mentioned in the blog as being updated with KB927891 ,
scans the DataStore.edb
There have been situations where said DataStore.edb contains way too
much info, or, it has been damaged/corrupted and as a result, it grows
to an unwieldy size.
[Translation of unwieldy - it's FRICKIN' huge <w> ]
