WSUS recommended configuration

I am trying to pick the best configuration out there possible.
My environment has mixed of desktops and laptops Windows 2000 and XP. Most
of the desktops are left online 24/7 but there are some users that shut down
the computers overnight etc.
I would like to configure WSUS to install the patches at 1:00 AM and reboot
when necessary with a 10-15 minutes notification for those users that are
logged in.
I also want to make sure that those computers and laptops who where shut
down at 1:00 am get the patches next time they are turned on.
Can someone recommend some settings/ideas/solutions?
