wsus remote database

I am preparing to install WSUS 3.0 on a 2003 R2 server, i allso have WSUS
2.0 on a win 2000 server.
I will retire the WSUS 2.0, so i will use it's database for my 3.0.
the questions are:
will the database be copied from 2000 machine to 2003 when choosing 'Using
an existing databseon a remote....'?
how do i transfer allready downloaded updates from my 2000 server to my
2003?

XCOPY across the network.


The *best* (read: easiest, IMHO) way to "migrate" a Windows 2000-based WSUS
2.0 installation to a Windows Server 2003 R2 WSUS 3.0 installation is to
install a FRESH WSUS 3.0 on the Windows Server 2003 R2 system, and treat it
as if you've never had WSUS installed before.

I would even caution against copying across the content library, unless
you've regularly performed maintenance on the WSUS 2.0 content library, and
you're sure that it does not contain lots of "stuff" you really don't need
to carry across to the new server.

The only real reason for doing a real migration is to maintain the database;
however, in general, the reasons for keeping the WSUS 2.0 database will
almost always outweigh the advantages for building a WSUS 3.0 server from
scratch. In fact, getting a *new* database is, perhaps, the best reason for
installing WSUS 3.0 from scratch.
