WSUS restart of a client

I have configured my network of 15,000 devices in WSUS to never force a
reboot but in turn ask the client every 60 minutes to Restart Now or Restart
Later.

I have written and run a vbs that tells me what devices are waiting for a
WSUS reboot. Remotely using a standard reboot does NOT count as a WSUS
restart.

So my question is simply this - is there a way to remotely or via script
run a WSUS restsrt on a device ?

Perhaps try the WSUS Newsgroup

On the web:
WSUS General
<http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/list/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.up date_services>

In your newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...pdate_services

Thanks and good luck !

I'm not aware of any way in which a "WSUS restart" is different from any other
kind of restart, so you'll need to start by telling us exactly what it is that
you're trying to achieve.

If you want the countdown timer to appear, you could try changing the Automatic
Update settings on the fly. The Windows Update Agent might notice the change
and behave accordingly, or if it doesn't, you could try stopping and restarting
the service. You'd need to make sure you put the right settings back after the
reboot.

Harry.
