WSUS in separate domain

We have a production domain and a development domain, no trusts between them
at all. Is it possible to run WSUS in prod domain and patch servers in the
dev domain? If so, how?

I'm not having any luck with it. My dev server hit WSUS and it gets logged
and shown Last Status Report as the current date, but no patches are applied
and sometimes fails.

Everything is 2003. Domains, OS, Exchange, etc

I tried searching this news server for anything WSUS and could not find it.
This news group was the closest thing. I'll give them a try.
