WSUS servers behind a firewall......

I have my WSUS server behind a firewall. My remote machines cant get to the
WSUS server and they are not even pulling group policy settings......yet they
can log in to the servers, map drives, etc. There are no errors in the event
logs or in the firewall logs. I read somewhere that Group Policy requires
some sort of ICMP to work.

Anyone have any input on this?
