WSUS-Setup aborting

Hi there, I have a strange error.

First of all the backgroundinformation:

I am trying to install WSUS on a Server installed with W2k3 Server
Standard with SP2. I ran once on that machine with SUS 1.x but after I
moved that machine into a virtual machine i uninstalled that.

So now I tried first to install WSUS 3 without SP1 and now with SP1 but
it always quits.

Sth worth to know: I already uninstalled IIS and wasted temporarily the
installed Exchange. So I'll not uninstall IIS again.

What am I doing wrong?

Thx in advance

Erik

Here the logs:
Unfortunately I cant place the log because of a size restriction on this
news-server so I'll post on pastebin.

ok, sorry. I meant this is the WSUS-Newsgroup. I'll post there, too.

Erik, since you previously had SUS 1.x installed on this machine, it's
imperative that you verify that all portions of SUS 1.x are uninstalled. One
of the most likely issues is that a SUS 1.x catalog file has been left in
the root of the "Default Web Site". Uninstalling IIS would not necessarily
have removed this content, as the Inetpub\wwwroot folder is not typically
removed when uninstalling IIS. Inspect the Inetpub\wwwroot folder and ensure
that all extraneous files are removed.

Beyond that suggestion, any other assistance is going to require that you
share the actual logfiles documenting the installation errors.

Hi Lawrence,
I didnt find anything in IIS-manager that contained sth like SUS.

I couldnt post the whole logs here because the filesizes were too big.
Thats why I put them onto pastebin and posted a link here.

Once more the links

The Windows Internal Database is already installed:

2009-01-10 21:16:48 Success MWUSSetup Installing wYukon using
MSI on Win2k3
2009-01-10 21:16:48 Success MWUSSetup wYukon is already
installed on this machine

But, it looks like the attempt to create SUSDB failed, or the database is
there but not available.

Changed database context to 'master'.
Msg 615, Level 21, State 1, Server \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query,
Procedure sp_dbcmptlevel, Line 145
Could not find database ID 5, name 'SUSDB'. The database may be offline.
Wait a few minutes and try again. Changed database context to 'master'.

I would suggest, first, uninstalling the Windows Internal Database (see
Appendix A of the WSUS Operations Guide for detailed instructions), reboot,
ensure that any remnants of a previous SUSDB database are removed, and then
try the installation again.

Also, confirm that the account being used to install the software is a
member of the BUILTIN\Administrators group, or a group therein.

okay, I uninstalled SSEE and removed WSUS database, but it still doesnt
work.

Here the logs:
http://pastebin.com/m1277ff20 ASPNETSetup_00000.log
http://pastebin.com/m7a046c7d WSUSCa_090113_2118.log
http://pastebin.com/m7fadcebc WSUSSetup.log

There are two more logfiles (WSUSSetupmsi_090113_2121.log and
WSUSWyukonSetup_090113_2120.log) but one of them is so big that it makes
my firefox crash

Any ideas?

Looks like you're trying to install WSUS to a compressed volume.

You cannot install WSUS to a compressed volume.

yes, I am trying to install onto a compressed volume :s

Does the whole volume need to be not compressed or is it enough if the
target folder is not compressed?

You cannot install SQL Server to a compressed *volume*.
You cannot install SQL Server to a compressed *folder*.

You would need to uncompress the volume and individually compress the
folders (Except the WSUS folder) that you wish to maintain compression on.

My suggestion, however, would be to split that volume into two volumes (or
find another volume), and put the WSUS folder on a dedicated volume.
