I think Microsoft should change "The WOW Starts Now" to "The WTF Starts
Now". After only one day of using Vista I've come to the realization that
it simply wont work for me. All of my hardware is supported, however, most
of the applications I require on a day to day basis would not run (or
install). I've been doing a lot of reading regarding these type situations
and it seems more people are dissatisfied with Vista than there are who
actually like the new OS. Yea, it's pretty... but whats the use if there is
a ton of software that just wont function. Frustrating.

Well, that's the thing about being an early adopter. In a year or 2
when the app vendors catch up, none of this will be an issue.

Remember, XP was reviled for the same reasons when it was released. It
was "too big, too dumbed down, too much eye candy". Now, 6 years
later, it's the "greatest OS Microsoft has ever released!"

XP is so far the best version of Windows Microsoft has released. Some
day Vista may be. The point is it was released prematurely, clearly
behaves more like a beta and has more internal issues, where XP had
mostly driver issues.

I always snicker when people are brainwashed into accepting oh so what
it's early Microsoft will fix it down the road with a service pak.
Then Microsoft should give everybody that bought Vista early and were
their unpaid beta testers a refund. I'd say $50 per customer sounds
right.

Yep, it is NOW. What was your opinion in July of 2001? I know what
mine was - "Windows 2000 is the best OS Microsoft has released".

Yeah, uh huh, sure, whatever.

The EXACT same things were said about XP. "It's incompatible, it's
buggy, it's too hard for Windows 98 users to figure out, it needs WAY
too much hardware for decent performance"!

Get over it already. It's been out for 6 months. Come back next
summer and we'll see where Vista is.

If you post details of the programs as well as exactly what happens,
it is probable you will get solutions from someone.

However without details, all I can suggest is Compatibility Mode.
Have you checked with the manufacturers about Windows Vista
compatibility?
If they are not compatible, be sure to let them know.

So far I have only two programs that have problems with Windows Vista,
one I never use.
the other has workarounds for the features I do use.

As for the numbers of people satisfied and dissatisfied, by its nature
a newsgroup will attract those with problems.

Have you tried installing your "incompatible aps" in compatibility
mode ?, if they worked in XP there's a strong chance they will also
work with Vista.
Put the installation CD/DVD into the drive and navigate to Control
Panel >programs >use an older program with this version of Windows,
iInstalling this way not via autorun could be the answer for you.

FWIW, despite a negative response from MYOB, I was able to get MYOB
Accounting 13 working successfully.
But I understand your pain, Vistas is NOT as user friendly as M$ would
have the general public believe, it's on a par with Ubuntu - unless you
are a user from Win98 days, I'm not advocating the use of Linux here
BTW ;-).

Have you checked the websites for the applications you refer to for updates
that support Vista? If your application is in these lists then there should
be updated versions that run on Vista - these are not small lists of
applications that work with Vista"

Applications that have earned the "Certified for Windows Vista" logo
To view the list of applications that have earned the "Certified for Windows
Vista" logo, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
https://winqual.microsoft.com/member...ifiedlist.aspx
Applications that have earned the "Works with Windows Vista" logo
To view the list of applications that have earned the "Works with Windows
Vista" logo, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
https://winqual.microsoft.com/member...swithlist.aspx

Additionally, most people that are happy with Vista will not bother posting
so in the forums and newsgroups.. so what you read about some not liking it
is a small number of the people who use it.

Did you note the dates on that blog? Vista has come a long way
compatibility-wise (meaning many companies have upgraded their software &
drivers) since then. The author of that blog is the one that sucks...

Just what software are you talking about? And have you really checked with
the vendor for solutions?

Maybe, there is some equivalent free solution, until the software vendor for
your applications that don't work catches up with Vista.

http://www.bestvistadownloads.com/

You do know that Vista has compatibly settings to run applications in a mode
like XP, Win 2K, Win 98, etc.
