WTF is up with the new version of Live Mail?

I have just installed an update that included the latest version of Live
Mail and am absolutely amazed at the result. Surely they are kidding? In
newsgroups now for some reason, new items have only the author (From) field
highlighted with bold text and the subject and other fields just in normal
text. The result is that when you receive new items in watched threads, you
cannot see which thread it is that has the new items unless you go through
and expand each one manually! Surely this is a bug in my setup and can't
really be like this?

Hi, Qu0ll.

> Surely they are kidding?

No, not kidding. They just didn't think it through. :>(

My solution (suggested by someone in the
microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop newsgroup) is a simple News Rule
(Tools | Message Rules). The full content of my Rule is:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
For all messages
Highlight it with Default

Some users here prefer the Highlight to be Black, but I like Default better.
You can choose for yourself.

No, its by design, its been raised quite vocally already as you can imagine
so hopefully they'll sort it out in the next release

If not don't worry after a few months your eyes will change shape so you can
still see what's going on. <g>

If I was using Windows Vista I'd just use Windows Mail - but unfortunately
on Windows 7 like I am I've got no choice, I tried Thunderbird but that
wasn't doing much for me.

QuOll, I have made my opinions of this ridiculous situation known to
Microsoft and they are 'supposed' to be dealing with it. How long it takes
them is another matter. I agree that simply highlighting the 'author' is
ridiculous. I can't say, as you do, that i was 'absolutely amazed,' more, in
my case, horrified.

The whole fiasco beggars belief.

That's the problem, Bob, Microsoft don't know what's best they only 'assume'
they do.

No, no, no... I'm sure they had a "focus group" of customers whom they
asked leading questions with pre-supposed answers - and they got
exactly the answers they pre-supposed, verifying that they were
correct about the proper approach all along :-)

The reason it will take forRedmondevah is that OE, Win Mail, and Win Live
Mail and the NNTP newsgroup reader are a Redmond free bastard step child.
It ain't part of the cash cow franchise which is Office and Outlook. They
have always been schlepped together with little regard for what their
customers want. The attitude with the free mail that's the NNTP newsreader
is "Let 'em eat cake if they ain't buyin' our cash cow."

MSFT apparently "thinks" they know best what you should be reading because
they have censored Bob's second message to you, and unless you hopped on it
earlier and dragged it to that desk toppy thingy you ain't can see it now.
