Haven't seen this error message in any posts ... I am running XP SP1 Home
Edition Version 2002. IE V6.0.2800. Here's the last 20 lines of my log file.

Thank you Jim, however, I have no idea if what you typed is relevant, is
supposed to point to a solution, or is obvious to everyone at Microsoft.
Since I am stuck with the same problem as the original poster, what I would
like is a solution to the problem.

I have found this error 0x80248007 in several places in newsgroups, but the
few "potential solutions" I have tried have not resulted in a solution.

Mine occurred when I had to rebuild my machine from scratch, XP Pro SP1 CD,
no luck. Downloaded the SP2 install pack from the IT Professional Microsoft
page and installed it fine, but still the same error for Windows Update.

Hopefully someone reading this can point to a solution.

Maybe this could help u out of this error (0x80248007):

Method : Clean old Windows update temporary files:
1) Click on Start and select Run
2) Type in services.msc and click OK
3) Double click on Automatic Updates and click on the Stop Button
4) Double click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service and click on the
Stop Button
5) Close the services windows
6) Click on My Computer > Local Disk C: > Windows
7) Right Click on the SoftwareDistribution folder and select Rename
8) Change the name from SoftwareDistribution to SoftwaredistributionOld
9) Double click on system32 folder
10) Right Click on CatRoot2 folder and select Rename. Change the name to
CatRoot2Old
11) Restart the system and try the automatic updates again.
