WU client fails CClientCallRecorder::AddService with error 0x80040

My Windows Update have stopped working. I have been googling around to find
any answers, but haven't had any luck so far. WU fails and gives the option
to reregister files that appear to be missing. The end of my
WindowsUpdate.log shows:

CClientCallRecorder::AddService with error 0x80040111

Can anyone help, please? I have tried reregistering .dll's, have reinstalled
msxml6 and so on.

0x80040111 - ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

Just a guess but, is the BITS service disabled ?
Check in the Services console by going to Start > Run and typing in
services.msc

Click OK
Click on the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
If it's already started then the Stop the service button is available
If it isn't started, then double click BITS and set the Startup type to
Manual
Click Apply, OK
Close the Services console.
Revisit WU
