WU downloading updates without notififying me

I have my Automatic Updates setting selected for "Notify
me before downloading or installing updates" But now the
WU icon says "download: 38%". What is being downloaded? I
was not notified of any downloads to be sent.
Do you think WU is downloading SP2? I installed SP 1
last week. It is very slow and downloads about 1% every
10 minutes.
What is going on? How can I stop it? And can I CLEAR
out what has already been downloaded?
