Newly loaded machine, win xp sp3 IE7. Everytime I try to get updates I
get this error.

- I've tried rebooting, I can't seem to get Microsoft update to install
on here.
- I've also tried the directions in MS KB 971058
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058)
- tried disabling all security software

and I'm having no luck. Any suggestions please as to what to do next?
Thanks.

Google search of the error code produced this thread with a possible
answer. Check it out: http://www.petri.co.il/forums/showthread.php?t=45962

This one, although aimed at Win7, might help too:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...f-76926b83b544

Some of the Google finds are very old (2-3 years).

Thanks for your reply Thai Guy. I did do a google search for my
specific wu error code and went through both links you posted with no
luck in fixing my issue. Thanks for your efforts. I'm open to further
suggestions.

Have you checked that 'Terminal Services' is running on the affected PC?
To do that, Start>Run then type 'services.msc' without the quotes.
Look down the list until you see 'Terminal Services', which should
have 'Started' under the Status column. Startup Type should be 'Automatic'.
If this service isn't running, WU will fail with that error.
Right-click>Start will start the service.

Hi Rob, per your suggestion, I checked and the terminal services service
is already running on the effected machine. Thank you for your reply.
