Since a couple of weeks Windows Update no longer functions on my
Windows XP SP2 machine.

It detects at the moment 10 available and essential security
updates, but it refuses to download them. Let alone install them.

Searching for reasons results in errorcodes 0x8024402C and
0x80072ee7.

I've tried the suggestions proposed by the Microsoft
Troubleshooters, but none of them gave a result.

I also am not able to download a file like Windows Media Player
from the Windows Media site, while downloading stuff from other
sites works perfectly.

Switching off the firewall makes no difference. Running several
kinds of spyware software detects nothing. My virus software did
not detect anything lately.

What is going here? Is there anyone with an idea?

Thanks.

I have the same problem and THREE staff from Microsoft Technical Support work
on it without any clear solution.

Check on the response of Patti MacLeod on the topic "Windows XP Update
(Error number 0x800B0001). It could be the answer. I haven't tried yet!!

Please post your results.
