I have a WinME PC that had a ton of malware on it. By all accounts I removed
all malware from PC (well, so says a number of different antivirus and
antispyware pkgs).

HOWEVER any installs that require reboots are failing. Every time Windows
restarts we see a message that Windows is updating before it can continue to
load but the update never really takes place.

How can I wipe away whatever is trying to install every time ME restarts so
that WU can again continue to work?

Thx
RG

I will try the steps outlined there later today (it might work) but the
article cited does not seem to apply to my present issue... There is no
failure message from the WU site or on my PC.

More exactly:
1) Every time Windows is restarted (around the time the Windows
splash-screen is displayed) we see a message that Windows needs to complete
updating files, then thinking it has succeded, continues to load Windows.
This happens every time I reboot even if I do not revisit the WU site or
reinstall any software.

2) ALSO, rerunning WU there is no inidication that a previous update has
failed... It just tells me it found a required critical update (the same one
over and over again) and after (re)install success is proclaimed.

Thanks!

Well, followed the instructions and never needed to even try to get as far as
attempting the WU again...

I *STILL* get Windows trying to update during startup! Must be a relic of
some old malware that was never completly purged even with all the 'trusted'
cleansing applications used and reporting back a 'clean' PC.

Is there anyway to find out what is trying (and failing?) to load on every
reboot?

Thx all
RG

To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.
