wuaueng.dll (1488) Unable to create the log. The drive may be RO

Attempting to run Windows Update software. I receive the following error
message

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
For self-help options:

The error message is listed as [Error number: 0xC80001FE]

I cannot find any reference to this error number. Looking in the event log,
I find the following entry.

wuaueng.dll (1488) Unable to create the log. The drive may be read-only, out
of disk space, misconfigured, or corrupted. Error -1032.

I've tried restarting WUAUSERV to no avail. Config Windows 2000 SP4.

What is the URL in the Address bar when this happens?
I'm don't use your OS but I know that some versions of it
may still be using WUv4 instead of WUv6.

That would make a difference for the name of the log file involved.
E.g. Windows Update.log if WUv4; WindowsUpdate.log otherwise.
I'd try renaming those; a new one should be created the next time
you try using WU.
