WUS Approval Statuses

I'm trying to get a clear explanation of the different approval statuses:
Install, Detect only, and Not approved.

Fyi:

Microsoft has established the newsgroup microsoft.beta.wusoep.general
for the Windows Update Services (WUS) beta version.
