XP Pro SP2 - three brand new Dell Optiplex machines.

Before installing anything else, I always do Windows Updates. With each
machine, I visit the Microsoft Windows Update site which asks to download an
ActiveX control. I allow this, and a page begins to load "Checking to see if
your computer has the latest version of Windows Updating Software to use with
the website..." Then I get an "Internet Explorer - Security Warning" which
tells me that "Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the
publisher" with the Name: wuweb_site.cab?1139410240875. The only option is to
click <OK>. Instantly another Internet Explorer - Security Warning pops up
this time with the Name: ocget.dll. Again I can only click <OK>.

I can't do ANY Windows Updates. I have tried disabling the firewall to no
avail Dell seem unable to provide a solution.

Anyone?

OK, an update: On the final screen after the error messages, I notice the
"Error number: 0x8DDD0004". Now let's be clear, this is a brand new machine,
nothing on it other than XP Pro. Yes, I'm logged in as an administrator; yes,
Firewall has been variously switched on and off with restarts in between;
yes, wuwebcontrolclass is enabled in Internet Options.

Dell have been a bit more helpful, but after a complete reinstall, we're no
closer to a solution.
