OK, an update: On the final screen after the error messages, I notice the
"Error number: 0x8DDD0004". Now let's be clear, this is a brand new machine,
nothing on it other than XP Pro. Yes, I'm logged in as an administrator; yes,
Firewall has been variously switched on and off with restarts in between;
yes, wuwebcontrolclass is enabled in Internet Options.
Dell have been a bit more helpful, but after a complete reinstall, we're no
closer to a solution.
