i just installed sp3 and when i shut the lid on my lap top it didn't go to
standby like it normally did. Instead it showed a blue screen and the
following error code: 0x8024600A. I uninstalled and reinstalled same
problem. The second time i shut down my anti-virus and spy-ware protector.
Any suggestions.

Check for updated hardware drivers on the laptop manufacturer's web site, or
call the manufacturer's support number.

A Windows XP SP3-based computer loses wireless connectivity when it resumes
from standby or from hibernation, or you receive an error message when you
try to put the computer in standby or in hibernation:

I tried but I don't use my wireless adaptor and my ethernet is already set to
be allowed to off. I unistalled sp3 for now.
Thanks for trying! I appreciate it.

Try a web search?

)

So then the question would be, given your scenario, *what* is downloading
when you try to put your machine into Standby mode?

FWIW one guess would be that you still have some downloading being done
by BITS. To see if that's the case you could try entering this command
(in a cmd window):

bitsadmin /list /allusers /verbose

Then if there are any downloads going on that way you could suspend
them using that same command line tool.
