If you look at the XBOX web site they give instructions on how to place your
gamer tag on the desktop...this was obviously not for a vista PC and I can't
figure out where in Vista this is accomplished. Here are the basic steps:
From your Windows Desktop:

1. Select Start.
2. Select Control Panel.
3. Double-click Display.
4. Select the Desktop tab at the top of the window.
5. Select the Customize Desktop button (at the bottom of the window).
6. Select the Web tab at the top of the window.
7. Select New.
8. In the Location field, enter this URL: http://gamercard.xbox.com/[insert
your gamertag here].card (make sure to replace the bracketed text).
9. Click OK, OK, OK … etc.
If your gamer card seems to be swimming in a sea of gray, just re-size the
window to frame the gamer card.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I believe that may be the remnants of the old "active Desktop" that windows
introduced ca. Win 98.
As far as I know, that function is no longer available in Vista, deleted as
a security precaution, I believe.
However, since Sidebar gadgets allow data to be pushed from the Internet, I
wonder if it might be possible to do something similar using gadgets. Maybe
someone has already created such a thing.
I suggest you search the gadgets gallery.
