xls file association

Hi,
I vave a vista business pc, fully patched.
I cannot associate xls files with Excel 2003 - when you try to choose the
programme to 'open with', excel is not listed. If you browse to Excel and
select 'Open', nothing happens.
If you open excel first, then browse to the file and open, it works fine.
Can somebody help please>

Insert your MSOffice product disk and run a repair installation.
