XML Problems After Installing Post SP4 Rollup

I ran windows update on TWO separate Windows 2000 SP4 machines and install
the Update Roll-up 1 and it seems to have destroyed the MSXML parser for IE
on both machines. IE fails to function when parsing XML in web pages and
when and XML file is opened directly IE goes into a continuous loop trying
to spawn new instances of itself.

Also, I see the following errors reported by our custom COM+ objects that
use XML. (These dll's have remained unchanged for about 2 years)

%1 is not a valid Win32 application. is not a valid Win32 application.

Is there a know issue with these updates? Should they be pulled?

Reinstall of MSXML 3 SP5 fixed the problem.

Definately a problem with the Update Rollup 1. I reinstalled it and it
zeroed out both these files again.

Did you update via the web (update) page or download and install the
update manually from the file?
I think there is/was a reported anomaly about downloading the patch and
installing from the .EXE file that does not exist if you install from
the web directly.

Hmmm....

I just installed... and I'm fine here.
Anyone else having problems with 0-length system files?

Hi,

The problem will not show up if you use the full exe install version
of Win2k Rollup1 that is available from the download center.

It is only when you use an installation type that only download needed
files that this msxml3 issue might show up, that would be when using
Windows Updates or Automatic Updates to install the rollup.

Hi,

Instead of reinstalling MSXML 3 SP5, you can copy the original files
back from the DllCache folder (C:\Winnt\System32\Dllcache\, hidden
folder).

Hi,

Yes, I have when installing the rollup from a WSUS server. In the WSUS
newsgroup, a couple of others have also reported this problem.
