XP and Vista

I have a new laptop running Windows Vista. Why do I have so many files and
updates for Windows XP and do I need them? I just downloaded the sp1 for
Vista, and so many of the updates are for XP. I don't want to delete them
until I know if I need them.--Why do I need files for XP when I am running
Vista?

Not one of the updates I have been offered has XP in the title. I would use
the update number to go to the Knowledgebase and see what they do.

For example
http--support.microsoft.com-kb-<6 digit number of update goes here>

I just installed SP1 on a previosuly un-updated system
after a reboot I went to the Windows update page and there were only two
small updates...
that's it.

No XP updates appeared
