I cannot access my server via \\servername\c but I can via \\serverip\c?

The workstation is a Windows XP w/ SP3, and the Server is Windows Server
2008 standard.

I have network discovery enabled on the server, so I'm not sure what
else to check for.

Also my network transfer speeds are ABYSMAL. It's taken me over half an
hour to transfer 2GB of data over a 100Mbit link.

Any ideas on both of these items?

Hello Ryan,

Sounds like DNS issue, please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the server
and the workstation.

Best regards

I got this solved, turns out my workstation was hating life. A rebooted
fixed it, however the transfer rate is still abysmal on the server.

I had read about TCP Offload (Chimney), however I'm confused whether you
do it in my case, on the Hyper-V host or the child VM install?

Ok, but how do I determine if the Host OS or Guest OS is the one
affected by TCP Chimney problems?

Just toggle the settings off on one/both/all and test accordingly?

Hello Ryan,

The problems belong to 2008 not to a VM or physical machine, so you have
to configure/check each VM like a physical.

Ok but if the host is running Hyper-V R2,which has Server 2008 code.. I
would think POTENTIALLY the Hyper-V install could be affected by TCP
Offload too.

I guess I'll have to do some testing.
