I bought an upgrade from XP home to XP pro quite some time ago but didn't try
to install it until now. In the mean time I installed service pack 2. The
upgrade is named XP Professional version 2002. Now when I try to install it
says "Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer
is newer than the version on the CD. " And it warns me I will loose my files
and settings if I continue. Any suggestions on what to do now?
Thanks,
Charles

From one user to another-

The CD is XP Pro with no SPs, your computer is XP Home SP2. Because you are
trying to upgrade XP Home to XP Pro, but the version of SPs between the two
are different, the CD says the Windows on your computer is better than the
one on the CD.

If you want XP Pro on your computer, save your personal files, make sure you
have all the installation disks and CDs for all your programs installed on
the computer, and then stick that XP Pro CD in the drive and upgrade.
Hopefully you won't lose your personal settings, and all, but you WILL lose
the functionality of SP2.

Since the computer has SP-2 Pro is seen as a downgrade since SP-2 is not
part of the CD.
You have a few choices:
1. Slipstream SP-2 into the Windows XP Pro CD:

2. Or uninstall the installed Service Pack so the computer is - or less
than the CD:
Go to Add/Remove Programs and double-click "Service Pack 2"
Follow prompts for uninstallation of SP-2.
