Anyone have any ideas on how to recover from a problem
where the PC will not start after SP2 was installed?

Windows XP Home...
Boots up to the point of \windows\system32\drivers\Mup.sys
then hangs indefinately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Don't have your answer but if it makes you feel better, I
am reloading 2 of my 3 computers because SP2 crashed them
simular to yours, do not think I will try it on the 3rd,
nor do I think I will try SP2 again for a while. If you
give microsoft your left arm, right hand and foot, you
may be able to get some useful help from them, I have
found none on the website. Also, the recovery procedure
did not seem to work either, on both systems the
procedure gave errors and at the end, the systems would
start as long as you took a long nap, the system idle
process was eating up 98% of the CPU and most things did
not work either. I think Bill needs to take this one back
to the drawing board.

May be time to look a little harder at Linux.

If you've got a Prescott, Celeron D or Extreme Edition CPU then see:
