XP doesn't boot after Service Pack 2 install

Windows XP will not boot after installing SP2 on my HP Pavilion 354n. The
msg is: STOP:C000218{Registry File Failure}...cannot read
hive(file)...SystemRoot\System32\Config\Security.. . I tried using the
recovery CD that I created when I first got the computer, but it leads me to
the same msg. Please help!

I have had a similar problem and have recieved the following advise from my
pc supplier and Microsoft.
Try to boot up in Safe Mode and delete sp2 from system using either
uninstall or add+remove programm.
Do a disc clean, defrag, thoro virus check.
Download sp2 but do NOT load, if no option then choose NOT to reboot.
Disconnect from net,close all virus,firewall adaware etc and all none
essntial progs.
Open sp2 and choose to reboot. all the best.
