XP Home Edition, no express upates since August 10th

I am set to get my updates automatically. My last were installed 8/10/06.
Since then, even when I click the "express" button I am told I need no
current updates. Do you know if this is accurate, (no updates needed since
August 10th on my XP Home Editon with IE6)?
Also. I was told said that updates are released the second Tuesday of each
month, therefore this coming Tuesday. Would you suggest I just wait and see
what happens?
It seems like a long time between the need for any needed updates... I am
concerned/maybe overly so? Will appreciate any feedback. Thanks

The reason it says there are no updates is because, well, there are no
updates and won't be any more until Tuesday. That said, I always wait a
few days before downloading and installing them until I see what happens
to the people who get them right away. Setting it to download and
install automatically is foolish because you should always disable your
anti virus auto scan before installing *anything*, including updates.

Isn't that rather strong, maybe it depends on the anti virus product in
use, I never disable anything before downloading or installing anything
including updates.
Joan
PS: I run NOD32

The effects of not doing that aren't always immediately discernible. The
is no good reason to have an anti virus checking every bit and byte when
you install something and doing so can lead to problems.

That's how it works. Second Tuesday of each month. Just like you were told
before.

Hi Joan
I never download and install in one go - well certainly not anything offered
on Black Tuesday - download first to either CD or desktop - disconnect from
the net - disable anti-V - then install - one at a time with reboot after
each install.
Anyway, Alias did not say anything about disabling before download - he said
before install.
I also wait a couple of days - prudent action considering the last few
months - but this August it was a week before I could get into WU - like so
many others.
I wonder what delights MS have for us on Tuesday?

I have mine set to notify but not download and the notice comes in on the
Wednesday morning for me in the UK. I usually click to download but it can
sometimes be another day before it happens but so far I have never had a
problem with any updates and as I said I never turn off anything to do it,
I'm obviously one of the lucky ones <g>
