XP home will not shut down after update

Actually, it would not start up properly after letting the express update
run. I had to keep some expensive heavily copy protected software running
for a few days, so I restored to an earlier time and did not allow the
updates to be processed. Now, I'm trying again. The updates are

KB806424
KB900725
KB901017
KB902400
KB904706
KB905414
KB905749

The OS is at SP2, and as far as I know, up to date with the exceptions
above.

I started in order and got to 902400. Sometimes the update failed, but
"worked" the next time. Each time, I shut down the pc and restarted. It
worked pretty well, with Windows not starting once, but ok the next time,
until KB902400, which allegedly installs, but the pc will not shutdown
anymore.

Is there anything to try before re-installing everything? Thanks for any
help.

John

Your trouble sounds like mine. In my case, system wouldn't hibernate. I had
to physically go thru Control Panel twice and set up the hibernation
function. This SP2 had me doing EVERYTHING twice. Try to do duplicate
functions, unless it gets to be too much. Then I would suggest talking to
Tech Support and uninstalling SP2.
Hope this helps.
