The PC had Windows XP Home edition installed and I wanted to upgrade it to XP
Professional.

I downloaded from MDSN Windows XP Professional with Support Pack 2 (English)
-- file en_winxp_pro_with_sp2.iso ISO-9660 CD Image, SHA-1 Hash
9b1b8098395872b8e8e1012215f8d72ae7c5e030

I burnt that disk image to a CD and stated the Setup. It asked me for a
Product Key and I entered the one available from MDSN for it. It began the
installation, progressed to the re-boot stage, then resumed with Installing
Windows until the 33 minutes remaining point -- up pops the
enter-your-Product Key dialog again, with my Key already in it, I click Next
and get the error "The Product Id you entered is not valid."
I can't get past this point. If I re-boot, Windows Setup immediately begins
again and brings me after repeating 6 minutes of Installing Windows work back
to this point.

Note: if it really means Product ID, rather than Key, the pop-up provides no
place for one to enter a Product ID.
