installation was complete. it was "stuck" trying to restart but wasn't
actually able to. I had to restart on safe mode and uninstall the service

1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis
log to an appropriate forum.

Check for Hijackware

http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm

When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip)
is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware.

**Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or
other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.**

3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill
of health.

See HP's instructions for required updates before attempting to install XP
SP2:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...name=c00218731

Note also that the first restart after applying XP SP2 can take a very long
time, and it should not be interrupted. If the disk is busy, let it run.

I think you should try downloading it from Microsoft Download Center, by
searching XP SP2 for Devoloper and IT Pro

I got the answer. I had same problem and found a forum that suggested this
and it worked! Download SP2 and when it tries to install go to safe mode and
do this.
Right click My computerthan click properties. Click Advanced tab than click
third button down ( system start settings ) click edit. Than edit the end of
last line (on my comp that was where it was). Change /Noexecute=opt In to
Noexecute=AlwaysOff. Than click ok and reboot. This worked great for me. The
forum did say to make a backup in case it dont but I had no troubles at all.
Hope this helps.
