XP Home Service Pack 2 failed upgrade

I have tried several times to install Service Pack 2 each time getting the
error as follows:

Error Code: 80070005

I've also downloaded the service pack to install directly onto my PC
(WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) which did install but once I restarted, the
PC took 30 minutes to log me on and present the desktop start bar. I then
unistalled the service pack.

Can anyone advise please?

Try the steps in this trouble shooting article::

This error message may occur if you have insufficient permissions to
the Windows Update registry keys. The WindowsUpdate.log file will also
read errors 0x80070005 and 0x80080005.

If that doesn't work, some log files you can check for any clues
or error messages:

%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log
%windir%\Svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)
