XP Home SP2 install fail: requested section was not present

Running in safe mode as admin, I get the message The requested section
was not present in the activation context when installing SP2. This is
a former client's machine running SP1 XP home. I've tried running as
other user with admin rights, but no joy.... I saw the post elsewhere
on using secedit, but this seems to only be present in XP Pro--could I
copy the executable from one of my pro machines and use it on the Home
edition or would this just hose things more completely? Any suggestions
(especially any that work) would be appreciated.

There is a HOTFIX that applies to this issue. But you have to call
Microsoft to get it. The Knowledge Base article is #895322.
