XP home update question

I just reinstalled XP Home 2002 and now am looking at 22 critical
d/l's/updates..
Should I just let it fly and d/l all 22...or should I go a few at a time.
Suggestions/comments please?? Also, should I disable virus protect.

Just ordered the CD. Hopefully it'll arrive way before 4-6 weeks...?
