XP HOME Very slow after updates - Help

On April 21 - Auto Update installed the following:
kb893066
kb893086
kb890859
kb890830 - Maliicious Software removal
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1

Immediately after the install the computer slowed to a crawl. I removed MWI
3.1 per some other posts on this board. There was slight improvement. Also
I cannot find Hotfix q811493 which I understand is causing an issue.

To complicate matters, my System Resore is turned off. I can't go back to a
previous point.

Suggestions??
