I recently replaced my built-from-scratch home pc with a store bought HP
model. The old machine originally had Windows98 SE installed and was
successfully upgraded to WindowsXP Pro back in December of 2003. The old pc
had a good life, but finally gave up the ghost. Rather than repairing it
with bits and pieces, if was more cost effective to purchase a new one. The
newly purchased HP pc was bought in December of 2004 and came with WindowsXP
Home pre-installed. I want to utilize my purchased XP Pro on this new pc but
when I insert the CD to do the upgrade, I receive a message screen that
states "The version of windows you are trying to install is older than the
version that is currently running?" I have 2 Novell Servers communicating
via IPX with my home pc, thus I need to have XP Pro running on it so I can
use my servers. Anyone know how I can get this upgrade to XP Pro to work?
