Xp install after vista

Am trying to install xp on a new laptop that already has vista.Have mad
another partition using vista disc management. I boot to xp disc and g
to install but cannot choose a drive or partition as box remains empt
and nothing shows.Any help on overcoming this would be greatl
appreciated.:

You will likely need to have a driver disk ready to install the necessary
SATA drivers so that the Windows XP setup can access the hard drives.
Remember, Windows XP was introduced without support for SATA drives.

Hi David,

First, delete the partition you created and leave it as unallocated space.
XP setup needs to create its own volume and cannot install on one created by
Vista.

Second, before proceeding read this:

Note that you will need a Vista DVD to do the repair operations.

The O/P didn't say he was installing Windows XP SP3. He said he was
installing Windows XP. I take that to mean the original distribution (no
service packs included).

Anyways, on my old Asus A7N8X motherboard it didn't make any difference at
all. I still needed to install the SATA drivers to even SEE the hard drives.
