If I scan for the local OTA signals automatically. in XP MCE 2005: I get the
message in TV Configuration Result: " A TV signal was not detected. Please
make sure a live TV signal is connected to the computer and try again." I
happen to know that a live TV signal is connected to the computer, since I'm
receiving most of the OTA signals from my area as a result of a manual scan.

I have followed the 15 steps outlined at
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archi...22/604380.aspx to repair MCE
to no avail.

Did you also have a separate analog tuner installed and working required in
MCE2005 before you tried to install the OTA digital tuner?

I'm using the Vbox 164e. Notice that I receive OTA signals fine, just not
when I scan.

No, I installed XP MCE 2005, then the Vbox 164e and drivers. The drivers are
current. I don't recall that the signal scan feature in the MCE TV setup was
ever functional.

As curious pointed out, in MCE 2005, you must have an analog tuner installed
first to use a digital OTA card. This restriction does not exist in Vista or
7. If the card is a hybrid, it will attempt to use the analog portion first
and scan for analog channels (which probably don't exist).

I recommend that you read a few other posts by Hot-text to help you
interpret the utility of what he writes...

And this could affect only two of the five available channels? If so, can you
suggest a workaround? Yes, the Vbox 164e is a hybrid. Thanks for the reply.

The Vbox 164e is a hybrid card. It receives both NTSC and ATSC. Rollup 2, in
XP MCE, allowed digital OTA reception. Therefore, would not the issues you
have mentioned not apply?
