XP Pro SP2 stops my network?!

Folks
I installed SP2 and could no longer get on the internet. All my settings
seemed ok - nothing changed. I did a restore back to a point prior to SP2
install and was immediately back on the 'Net! What should I look for that
caused this - some XP firewall setting somewhere? I already have ZoneAlarm
Pro + netgear firewall router so if XP SP2 only offers more security then
should i even bother with SP2? Especially as there seem to be a constant
flow of security issues (jpegs) even after the release of SP2. Just seems
constant security updates from Microsoft....a bit too secure this time for me

Would prefer to update to SP2.

Thanks for any info.

Note that XP-SP2 is not affected by the latest jpeg-related threat. eg, those without SP2 (and older o.s.'s are at potential risk).
Yes, you ought to get SP2.

You only need 1 firewall. So go with ZA & disable the XP one.

After the completed SP2 setup, review the Properties of your Network connections. Turn off Windows Firewall.

How to configure the Windows Firewall feature in Win XP SP2

MS Article 875356 - describes how to turn off or turn on the Windows Firewall feature in Windows XP Service Pack 2

btw, if you have MS Office, check the officeupdate.microsoft.com site to insure it has all latest Office service pack.
Do the same for other 3rd-party imaging apps.

I too had a similar problem, after installing sp2 IE
wouldn't "hit" ANY web page, just gave me "can't display
page..." My dsl connection worked fine, but no webpages. I
really didn't think to much of it because I use Firefox
(much, much better, but can't do windows updates with it).
I found IE not working annoying, so I started thinking.....
I too was running Zonealarm(4.5), and for some reason ZA
denied IE access to the 'net after updating to SP2. I just
checked "allow" and now it works fine.

Thanks for the replies.
It was simply the firewall (doh!) so all works now ok.
Thanks for the firefox recommendation - thats one fast browser! i like the
way its basic and just does the job its meant to do! Use both IE and FF now.

SP2 is certainly a vast improvement and everyone should definitely get it.
thanks again
