XP pro SP2 upgrade...

when i upgraded my pc with sp1 pro to sp2, my computer had repeated user
profile read errors, and would not log in; it alternated messages per
restart, originally telling me that lsass was having fatal errors, then that
it could not read the license, then the aforementioned user profile read
errors;
i urgently needed several documents from my pc as quickly as possible, and
since i had no available method that i could quickly think of to roll back
sp2, i went and did an install repair via my xp+sp1 disk; it now refuses to
use my old user files, even though it now allows me to log in as that same
user; it has created a second user profile for the same user, and the
corresponding files are stored in "documents and settings/temp"
do i simply need to reassociate my login with the old files, which still
exist, or is this issue not that simple?

thanks, but it is more than that; i can absolutely handle reassuming the
ownership on my own, i was wondering about possible other issues that i
simply have not yet encountered that would not be fixed by reassuming that
ownership; and i also just remembered several other things; the windows sp2
control panel elements are still here, even though i cannot use them
