Same problem as Ron but I have a Desktop. I'm trying to do updates. It was
working when I
first got on. It wanted me to install new updates for windows update.it
installed them and then wanted to install the BITS 2.0 on my laptop. It
failed that install and now I can't get to the update page. It has error
number: 0x80072f78. I went to the knowlege base site and found a article#
836985.
This did not help.
How do I backout until this problem is fix?

I have had a similar problem twice in the last year. Both times I wound up
reinstalling my system software and all of the critical updates and that
fixed the problem for a time. The problem has not happened since the end of
February. I doubt that this will be very helpful.

Have you tried downloading the full upgrade, so far I have upgraded 2 XP Home
(1 of them is a 600 mhz slot A ) and one XP pro machine with no problems. The
link to the download page can be found under SP2 Download on page 7
(8/20/2004)

Hmm,
Exactly the same problem here. Having visited the updates site as normal and
I also get the "0x80072F78". There is some information on the windows update
troubleshooting page: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Apparently this is is a proxy problem (we use ISA 2k).
Doens anyone else feel this is a v5 problem that has just suddenly "started
happening"?
I really don't want to visit every workstation and start messing around with
the settings for v5 updates.
I have not yet attempted to install sp2 manually.

Thanks,
Stephen
