Will the XPPro upgrade wipe out the information that was contained in the
XPHome?

The XPHome will not complete setup and I want to know if XPPro upgrade will
fix this without losing the current data.

Normally upgrading from Home to Pro is not a problem but, if I were you, I
would fix the problem that is stopping Home from installing FIRST.

What do you mean by "XP Home will not complete setup"?
If you cannot install XP Home, neither will you be able to
install XP Pro.

The system requires the ASMS files from the home disk. A box opens titled
"Files needed" The text in the box reads " The file `asms' on Windows XP
Home Edition Service Pack 2 CD is needed

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

Copy files from:
GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386
I cannot get past this point it is as though the CDROM Drive is not being
recognized during this setup process. I know that thee drive works it will
boot from the drive to repair the system but during the installation process
this is where the problem occurs. I tried this same disk on a different
system and it seemed to cause the same issue. I did a complete system
restore from disk and the XPHome SP1 took. I was hoping that by using the
XPPro i would be able to get past this problem.

I believe that it is not recognizing the CDDrive. I have followed the advice
from article 311755 from may 5, 2004 on Asms error message.

I tried the items in the article it made no difference. It will not run in
safe mode because of setup not completing and I have only 1 partition so a
fresh install on another part is not possible .
